“Land of the free,” the father said
“True north, forever strong,
“Lest it should lose its confidence
In self, in right and wrong.”
“Speak from your heart,” the mother said,
“And child, live not by lies,
“Lest you should forget everything
And ignore both your eyes.”
Father, forgotten, grave knocked down,
No home left here to haunt.
For its foundations we yanked up
Razed wasteland we now flaunt.
Mother, dear, her advice ignored
By children destitute.
Poor in mind and spirit
They’ve given her the boot.
Land of the free, truth north strong,
No longer free nor true.
Now ruled by petty dictators,
Who blame the Wuhan Flu.
