Ghost town: Downtown Calgary office vacancy rate hits new high of 33.7%

Calgary Sun: 'According to the CBRE’s quarterly report released on Wednesday, downtown vacancy climbed to 33.7 per cent, up 90 basis points. It marks the second time the rate has been above 33 per cent, hitting 33.2 per cent at the end of 2021 before dropping to 32.8 per cent at the end of the first quarter.


'The vacancy rate is by far the highest in Canada, which has a national rate of 16.9 per cent in downtowns. The Waterloo, Ont., region has the second-highest vacancy rate at 26.5 per cent, while London, Ont., is at 25.9 per cent and Edmonton at 21.7 per cent. Every other major metro market was below 20 per cent.'
