Toronto Sun: 'El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, a man accused of undermining checks and balances in his own country, has been openly mocking Trudeau’s handling of the Freedom Convoy protests. On Twitter, he cast doubt on Trudeau’s stance against authoritarianism, mocked a Canadian statement denouncing the suppression of protests in Cuba and noted that police in Ottawa had threatened journalists with arrest.
'“They are directly threatening journalists with arrest. Aren’t they the ones lecturing other countries about freedom of the press? Will any country on earth accept these lectures anymore?” Bukele tweeted.
'Former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was critical of the use of police to break up the protest while the Embassy of China in Ottawa accused Trudeau of having a double standard depending on where a protest is held.
'“In Hong Kong, they are ‘human rights movement,’ but in Canada they are ‘a threat to democracy.’ Such stark double standard is unacceptable,” the Embassy tweeted.'
