State Media: "The City of Ottawa declared a state of emergency Sunday afternoon in response to ongoing protests in the downtown core, soon after police announced they would boost enforcement and crack down on the demonstrators' supply of fuel.
"In a statement, the city said the declaration "reflects the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government."
"Earlier in the afternoon, Ottawa police announced they would ramp up enforcement on protesters in the city's downtown core, handing out tickets and announcing that anyone looking to bring "material aid," such as fuel, to protesters could be arrested."
Chief Peter Sloly, Mayor Jim Watson, the Ottawa city council, and the Liberal regime ought to be ashamed of their fascistic reflex and eagerness to crush peaceful protests.
Canadian Civil Liberties Association: "If we allow too many restrictions on the fundamental right to protest, we silence the voices of many in our society, particularly those who may have limited other means for making their views known.
"It’s worth remembering that protests are intended to cause disruption and this is protected activity in a democracy. Strong protections for the right to protest are essential to meaningful and informed political debate and discussion.
"A democratic society welcomes debate and disagreement on the key issues of the day, and protest is a big part of this process.
"Protests can be messy and disruptive, but they are also crucial to our well-being as a society."
