Oh no!: UK, Australia, & Near East threaten to take migrants otherwise headed to Canada
The Economic Times: '"Things are changing post-pandemic. Canada is now facing stiff competition from countries like the UK and Australia, especially in terms of post graduation work opportunities," says Akshay Chaturvedi, founder, Leverage Edu. Better and more lucrative work opportunities and eventually a better route to getting citizenship is driving more and more people to these countries, he adds.
'The United Kingdom introduced the post-study Graduate Route in 2021, allowing eligible graduates to stay back for up to 3 years after studies in the UK. It is also expected to launch a special High Potential Individual (HPI) visa this month. The new visa pathway will be aimed at attracting high-skilled foreign university graduates - who will be allowed to work and stay in the UK for two or three years, depending on their degree level. Applicants won't need a job offer or sponsorship and holders of this visa will be free to come to the UK to work, set up as self-employed and volunteer.'
Looks like Big Business might have to pay better wages to Canadian citizens (i.e. if they are unable to lure wage-suppressing foreign nationals here).
