National Post: "What do we lose when we comply with these performative measures?
"We lose sight of what we really need — effective initiatives to reduce the mortality risk of covid. Think antiviral pills and antibody treatments, healthy lifestyle and weight loss promotion and more money in our health care systems.
"Most importantly, we weaken the muscles to say no when something feels wrong to us. We lose faith in ourselves to resist when something comes along that’s bigger. We lose trust in our public figures and institutions whose actions seem superficial. We give away tiny, tiny bits of our freedoms that we barely miss, until we look up and realize those bits added up to a whole big chunk that we can’t ever get back. Here we all are in Ontario, after all, two years after two weeks to flatten the curve."
