Communist Chinese invasion of Taiwan a matter of 'when, not if,' CIA chief warns

National Post: 'The director of the Central Intelligence Agency has warned that China appears determined to forcefully seize Taiwan, with Russia’s experience in Ukraine affecting Beijing’s calculations on when and how – not whether – to invade.

'China likely saw in Ukraine that “you don’t achieve quick, decisive victories with underwhelming force,” William Burns said in a speech on Wednesday at the Aspen Security Forum.

'He said that while China was “unsettled” over Russia’s protracted five-month-old war in Ukraine, it was drawing lessons from Moscow’s “strategic failure” for its own battle plans for Taiwan.'
